On Friday, October 11th we had the pleasure of listening to Pastor Rod Caswell (from CenterPointe Church) speak to the children. Pastor Rod brought in a pumpkin and talked to the children about the seeds that were in the pumpkin.
In 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 it says, "I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow." So how do we grow? It's by reading the word of God....the BIBLE! When we read the bible, God is watering the seed (us), just as a pumpkin farmer who tends to his field.
During planting season the pumpkin farmer puts the seed in soil and then tends to it (watering, etc.) as it grows. Once they are fully mature they are ready for people to pick. Life is messy, just like when you go to clean out the inside of a pumpkin, its messy. But when we surrender our lives to Jesus, he helps us clean out the mess in our life, we are "throwing" out the "seeds" our sin in our lives. Then as we grow in Christ and develop as a Christian, we become a shining jack a lantern. Remember, Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice, we just have to say YES to him! When we give our life to Jesus he will clean us up and work on areas in our life where we need fixed. When we bring a pumpkin home from the pumpkin patch we clean it and the messy stuff out of it. When we have God, His light shines through for all to see, just like a jack a lantern.
